The Atmosphere

The Ratera Relief is shadow and substance. Designed as a companion to the Matera chandeliers or as a standalone architectural statement, this sconce transforms a blank wall into a tactile landscape. It is a square of raw, geological power. When illuminated, the concealed light source pushes a halo of warmth from behind the copper plate, grazing the surrounding wall while highlighting the deep, cratered topography of the cast metal face. It reads as a floating artifact, ancient and brooding.

The Materiality

This is not stamped sheet metal; it is a Solid Sand-Cast Copper Panel. Molten copper is poured into a single-use mold to achieve the deep, bark-like striations that define the surface. The weight is substantial—far heavier than standard commercial sconces—giving it a feeling of permanence. The finish is a dark, living patina that sits in the valleys of the texture, with hand-burnished highlights on the ridges that catch the ambient light of the room.

Wall-mounted heavy metals require secure engineering. The Matera Relief mounts on a reinforced steel backplate that distributes the weight evenly, ensuring the square sits perfectly flush and plumb against the drywall or plaster. We position the E14 socket to ensure the light throw is strictly indirect, preventing glare and maximizing the "eclipse" effect. Each sconce is inspected for finish consistency before being packed in high-density foam to protect the cast ridges during transit.
